Drabble Challenge

  • Feb. 28th, 2008 at 7:45 PM

I got the idea from [info]my_matylda who got it from [info]josika...

First ten people who comment on this post and ask me to write a drabble (a short story about 100 words long) on a theme of their choice will get their drabble from me. However, in exchange he/she should post similar challenge on his/her LJ, blog, etc. Add fandoms you are willing to write about.

Somehow I doubt that as many as ten people know about the existence of this LJ, so good for me :-D Anyway, comment and I will try to write something from these fandoms: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings (oh, sweet days of my youth!),  mythology (is it a fandom? - Norse, Greek,...), Howl´s Moving Castle (Diana W. Jones anyone?) and Discworld.
I can brave even cross-overs, but the result will be your fault only.

Discworld? you got me in me! it's going to change a bit since I only read HP fics these last years. Who are your favourite characters? :DD

Discworld... I have periods (stop it, perverted brain of mine! no ambiguity today!) when I really fall for Terry Pratchett and then I can go like years without his books and fall in love with them again.

Favourite characters... I have lots of them, because Pterry makes his protagonists very likable, but if I should name some on spot:

Angua - I have a thing for werewolves and she is just so cool
Carrot - because everyone likes him
Cheery Littlebottom - she is both cute and kicks ass
Susan Sto Helit and Death - they rock, it is a family thing :-)
Moist von Lipwig and Adora Belle - I still haven´t read Making Money. Oh, well...
Maladict(a) from Monstrous regiment - vampire with serious coffein-addict is the first vampire I really liked

I am sure I forgot someone (a bunch of Feegles among others...)

As I mainly read the Discworld novels in French, three of the names you referred to are totally unknown for me -but hey, I do know who the others are! -and above all Angua and Carrot that I adore. :)
Where did Cherry Littlebottom appear for the first time btw?

We have different names in Czech translation as well. Our translator is excellent at puns and wordplay. He looks like a character from DW himself, chubby little fellow.
Cheery Longbottom is the she-dwarf in the Watch who as one of the first female dwarves started to discover her feminity :-) -so she wears both mascara and a heavy axe.

The French translator too rocks. I wonder where he can find such wonderful ideas to translate from.

Oh, I see. her first name was changed, so that's why I didn't recognize her name in English at all. :)

I remember reading Harry Potter in English for the first time. I have finished the first four books in Czech and I didn´t get the English terms: What on earth is "quidditch" amd "Dumbledore"?!
:-D
I like to leaf through different language versions. Sometimes it so funny to compare the original and the translations, as I am a crazy linguist.
Remus Lupin stays more or less the same, but Sirius Black becomes Sirius Musta in Finnish or Syriusz Czarny in Polish... It is cute!

I read the HP books first in French (at least the three first ones) so I had no problem getting what it was about. :))
So you're a linguist? I didn't know this. :D

Musta definitely makes me laugh!

I didn't comment on this yet, because I am scared of the part where I have to repost this on my own journal. However, since the weekend is coming up...

Snape Kills Dumbledore from the perspective of Discworld's Death, please. :D

I was scared as well :-D And for the same reason. So I will understand if you don´t post the challenge and I won´t report you to Higher Authorities. (On the other hand, you will have to cover up for me if I ever commit a great robbery of random valuable shiny thingies in your country, OK?)

Haha! I like the theme. Now, let´s see if the theme likes me...

You are going to write Howl? Talk about irresistible temptations!

And will you mind if I don't post the meme on my lj but write you a thank you drabble here instead? I'm offering HP, LOTR, any comics named in my interests and any Miyazaki Movie apart from Porco Rosso and Laputa (haven't seen them yet).

So my prompt is: Howl meets the With of the Waste for the first time... (I hope this scene isn't described in the book!)

It is a deal :-D
If I remember correctly the meeting between Howl and the Witch is not in the book.
Do you wish for the book witch (beautiful woman) or the movie witch (fat transsexual)?

I believe that even in the movie Howl admits she was once a beautiful woman. So I want a witch for which (bad pun intended ;) Howl could fall.

And I don't mind which language you use. Chose whatever you like (and I understand).

Sure thing! It will be in Czech, I think.
